CARIBOU — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department has posted their February vacation schedule, which has a little something for all youngsters.
On Friday, Feb. 17, the Caribou Ski Sprints will be held at the Teague Park Ski Trails at 4 p.m. There will be divisions for middle school, high school and open. The race is a 1km freestyle/skate. Skiing, snowshoeing and ice skating will be available under the lights.
On Tuesday, Feb. 21, there will be a junior ping pong tournament for ages 10-17 at 1 p.m. with prizes for three different age divisions. Pre-registration is required. At 6 p.m. an adult ping pong tournament will be held. Again pre-registration is required. Both events will be held at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. On Wednesday, Feb. 22, the regional hotshot competition will take place at the Caribou Rec Center Gym at 10 a.m. Participants have already qualified. Spectators are welcome.
On Thursday, February 23, there will be a Nordic ski outing and hot dog roast for grades 4-6. The van will leave the rec center at 9:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m. There is a $7 fee for this activity. Registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 17.
On Friday, Feb. 24, Take it Outside Day at Aroostook State offers youngsters in grades 3-5 a fun day of sliding, skiing, skating and snowshoeing at the park. Lunch will be provided. There is a $7 fee for this activity. Registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 17.
On Saturday, Feb. 25, it is Dream Team Saturday! at Teague Park. At 12:30 p.m. there will be outhouse racing, at 1:30 p.m. canoe racing and at 2:30 p.m. the coach potato biathlon. For additional information contact the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department at 493-4224.
And finally on Sunday, Feb. 26, the 2012 Caribou February Frolic will take place featuring the new Years Ski Race and Henry Anderson Ski Dag. Registration is $10 per person for one or both events, $25 per family for one or both events and free for those 18 and under. The 5k New years Skate Race and Tour will be at 11 a.m. at the high school ski trails. Registration is at 10 a.m. The 37th Henry Anderson Memorial Ski Dag will be at the Caribou Ski Trails located at the Caribou Country Club. Registration begins at noon and the race is at 1:30 p.m.
