WALDOBORO — The Caribou Vikings wrestling squad shook off a long bus ride to Medomak Valley High School for the Eastern Maine Class B wrestling tournament and turned in a quality performance placing fourth out of 10 teams and two Caribou wrestlers picked up Eastern Maine titles.

At 182 pounds, Deion Caudill continued to impress. He scored three wins on Saturday to claim the championship. That’s after winning the Penboscot Valley Conference title the week before.

“I think he’s the guy to beat at the state tournament this coming weekend,” said his coach James “Chico” Hernandez. “He is very coachable and sports a 22-1 record this year.”

At 126 pounds, Brendan Wood beat Calen Bragg of Camden Hills for the EM title.

“He has been wrestling so well this season and his only defeats are by one point,” said Hernandez.

The coach feels both Vikings have a good shot at a state championship. He also had high praise for freshman Robert Caudill, who finished second at the Eastern Maine Tournament in the 120-pound weight class.

“He has made the transition from Aroostook County Junior High Champion into becoming a major contender for the Class B state title this weekend,” said Hernandez.

Also qualifying for the States is: Colby Conroy, who just returned to the team following a concussion, had a third-place finish at 160 pounds on Saturday; Rebecca King grabbed fourth place at 114 pounds; and Michael Selander was fourth at 138 pounds. Matt Manter is an alternate at 195 pounds.

The State Tournament is set for Saturday at Fryeburg Academy.
