PRESQUE ISLE — The Northern Maine Community College men’s basketball team opened their home schedule for second semester on Sunday with a 59–44 win over Unity College.
The two teams had played at Unity on Dec. 4 with the Rams picking up a one-point win on a free throw with 1.6 seconds remaining in the game.
The Falcons held a slim, 23–21, lead at halftime but tightened up their defense and rode a 23-point second half outburst by freshman Matt Till of Caribou, who finished with 29 points.
“I thought Matt played a great second half as he became more aggressive with the ball and combined attacking the basket along with his signature three-point shooting,” said coach Bill Casavant.
Doug Sharpe of Fort Fairfield finished with 11 and Sam Joy added 10.
The NMCC roster also has Alex Myers (Solon), Frank Lafave (Mapleton), Spencer Conrad (Jackman), Sean Daniels (Easton), Joe Buckley (Presque Isle), Jon Post (Chapman) and Kevin Barnes (Atlanta).
The manager is Sarah Kenneson (Bristol, N.B.).
The Falcons will travel to Bangor tonight to take on CMCC in a game to be played at Eastern Maine CC at 7 p.m. The Falcons final home game will played Thursday Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
