The Caribou High School wrestling team looks to be peaking at the right time according to coach James “Chico” Hernandez, as the Vikings prepare for the Penboscot Valley Conference Championship this weekend and the Eastern Regional Finals the next weekend.
“As a team we are still flying underneath the radar,” he said. “We will make some noise in the upcoming tournaments.”
Wrestlers who could challenge for titles include Deion Caudill, Robert Caudill and Brendan Wood.
Last Saturday Wood, at 126 pounds, was crowned champion at the Mt. Desert Island Invitational Tournament as was D. Caudill at 182 pounds.
Here’s the rest of the team results for Caribou: 132 lbs. Mike Selander placed third; 138 lbs. D.J. Pizutti placed third; 138 lbs. Morgan Swan placed fourth; 152 lbs. Jake Bither placed fourth; 195 lbs Matt Manther placed fourth; 113 lbs. Rebecca King placed fifth; 220 lbs. Danny Powers placed fifth; and 120 lbs. Dylan Bryam did not place.
