Patriotic coloring contest winners announced

The Caribou Lister/Knowlton VFW Post 9389 Ladies Auxiliary recently sponsored a Patriotic Coloring Contest for second-grade students at the Hilltop Elementary School. The annual event, in its fifth year, is part of the Auxiliary’s Americanism Program.

Second-grade students at Hilltop Elementary School recently learned about patriotism from members of the Lister/Knowlton VFW Post 9389 Ladies Auxiliary. During their Nov. 10 visit to the school, Auxiliary members read a brief history on the American flag to the students and informed them of proper flag etiquette. Each of the students received an American flag booklet, a ruler and a pencil, each inscribed with the Pledge of Allegiance; and a photograph of all U.S. presidents.

Certificates were awarded to five students, selected by the Auxiliary, for their patriotic coloring efforts, with first, second, and third place also receiving cash awards of $5, $10 and $15 respectively.

Students receiving certificates included the following. Brandon Hall and Salene Pelkey, honorable mention; Jasmine Green, third place; Landon Thompson, second place; and Caitlyn Bossie, first place.
