Thompson, Walter B., 95, Presque Isle; in Presque Isle, March 29, 2009. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle. Spring interment will be at Chapman Street Catholic Church Cemetery. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

 

    Presque Isle – Walter Burns Thompson, 95, died March 29, 2009, at the Presque Isle Nursing  Home. He was born on June 12, 1913, in Presque Isle, the son of Mary Ellen (Sweeney) and Lamont Thompson.
    Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, class of 1931, where he played football and baseball. He married Gertrude Page on June 26, 1939. They were married for 66 years until her death on March 30, 2005. In his earlier years, he worked at Bartlett Sporting Shop, then at Maine Farm Supply for 18 years where he worked on outboard motors in the summer and oil burners in the winter. An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved canoeing and fishing on the Presque Isle Stream. Many hours have been spent discussing truths or untruths about several hunting or fishing trips. An expert fly-tier, many anglers have had success on his famous “Thompson Special.” Also an avid reader, he could recite many poems and lyrics and also composed short stories. He was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
    In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Thompson was predeceased by two sisters, Flora Carson and Gertrude Goan; one brother, Hugh; and a daughter, Kathleen Madison. He is survived by son, James Thompson and wife, Joanne, of Mapleton; daughter, Alma Fogg and husband, Benjamin, of Old Town; son, Michael Thompson and wife, Sheila, of Presque Isle; daughter, Flora McCorrison and husband, Stanley, of Thorndike; son-in-law, David Madison of Steubenville, Ohio; two sisters, Helen Goodreau and husband, Clem, of Westfield, Ma. and Regina Calibani of Newport, R.I. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Scott Thompson, Jeffrey Fogg, Beth King, David Madison, Cheryl Madison, Jeffrey Hudson, Gregory Hudson, Michelle Carney, Angela McDonnell, Morgan McCorrison and Marc McCorrison as well as 16 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10  a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle with the Rev. Raymond Morency celebrant. Spring interment will be at Chapman Street Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Atlantic Salmon of Northern Maine, P.O.
