Aroostook County, Poughkeepsie, New York and St. Petersburg, Florida — Reg passed away August 13, 2011, at the age of 83 in St. Petersburg, where he had been a resident since 1990.
Reginald was born in 1928 in Ft. Fairfield and later resided in Caribou until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon graduation from Caribou High School in 1946. After being honorably discharged, he attended Ricker College, Houlton, where he graduated in 1952.
Always enterprising, Reg owned and operated “The Bus” in the early 1950s near the Ricker College campus in Houlton. The Bus, a diner fashioned from a school bus, is still in business to this day. In 1952 he accepted a contract with Prudential Life, where he continued to be an award-winning salesman for 25 years. As an active member of his community, he was elected president of the Caribou Jaycees and the Rotary Club in Maine and New York. In 1964 he moved his family to Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County, New York while still with Prudential. Later, in 1983, he opened a successful real estate business in Dutchess County before retiring to Florida.
Reg was an avid tennis and basketball player, swimmer, enthusiastic story-teller and lover of jokes, but he will be remembered most for his dynamic personality and zest for life.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Glenna Newman, an educator and published author of children’s poetry. He is survived by his second wife, Anna White of St. Petersburg, Florida and his four children: Tamara Saba and Valerie Lombardi of New York State, Ted White of Michigan and Randolph White of Texas as well as six grandchildren and two stepsons: David and Brian Vandeyar of New York State.
A fall memorial in celebration of his life will be held in St. Petersburg, Florida, and a spring memorial will take place on the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie.
