Viking Paige Small starts the Caribou offensive attack in a quarterfinal match against Ellsworth on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Caribou went on to post a 4-0 win.

Mollie Roy’s 40-yard serve into the penalty box was deflected into the net by a Caribou defender just 18 seconds into the game as second-seeded Hermon held on for the win over the third-seeded Vikings.

Caribou coach Todd Albert said the girls didn’t let down after the early goal and did have a few chances throughout the game but couldn’t convert.

“I thought both teams played hard, and it would have been nice to see what we could have done in overtime or in penalty kicks,” said Albert.

Mikayla Treadwell stopped all three shots she faced for 13-2-1 Hermon.

Morgan Swan saved 8 of 9 shots for Caribou (11-3-2).

Hermon faces Presque Isle in Presque Isle today at 4 p.m. for the Eastern Maine Championship.

In the quarterfinal round at home on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Caribou’s Olivia  Sleeper scored two second-half goals to lift the No. 3 Vikings by the No. 6 Eagles.

Jamie Martin scored a first-half goal for the 11-2-2 winners and Hannah Hebert capped the scoring when she converted a penalty kick in the second half. Kendra Stephens, Meredith Sleeper and Paige Small each notched an assist.

“We had difficulty scoring goals all year, so it was nice to see some things finally come together,” the Caribou coach said.

Swan made 12 saves on 16 shots.

“We didn’t finish where we wanted to, but the girls worked hard, and I feel that we improved from the start of the season,” Albert said. “I am proud of their effort.”
