PORTLAND – The marketplace and consumer sentiment continued to fuel growth in Maine’s credit unions for the first six months of 2011. The Maine Credit Union League’s mid-year statistics for the period from Jan. 1 – June 30, 2011, showed that credit unions experienced across-the-board increases in all key categories including assets, savings, lending and membership.
For credit unions with ties to Aroostook County, four placed in the Top 30 in asset size including two in the Top 10. University CU, which has a branch in Presque Isle, was seventh place with $201 million in assets; The County FCU, based in Caribou, stands in 10th place with $164 million in assets; NorState FCU, based in Madawaska, placed 12th with $142 million in assets; and Fort Kent-based Acadia FCU stands at 23rd at $93 million in assets.
