Caribou boys make a late season push

Aroostook County will be well represented in the Class D boys’ soccer playoffs picture. This last week of the season saw some teams make a push to get into the post season and other teams solidify their rank near the top of the Heal Point standings.

Here’s a recap of some of the games played through Monday, Oct. 17:

Washburn 4, Fort Fairfield 1 — At Fort Fairfield Monday, Jordan McLaughlin scored all three of his goals in the first half, staking the Beavers to a 3-0 halftime lead en route to the win over the Tigers.

Nick Bragg scored in the second half for 11-2-1 Washburn and assisted on one of McLaughlin’s goals. Zach Davis made eight saves on 14 shots.

Tyler Churchill posted the goal for 2-10-2 Fort Fairfield, with an assist from Dereck Dufour. Chris Weeks made eight saves on 19 shots.

Presque Isle 4, Hermon 0 — The Presque Isle Wildcats upped their record to 11-1-1 on Saturday with a  4-0 road win at Hermon.

Issac LaJoie had two goals and Jonah Stevenson and Jake Player chipped in a goal apiece. Stevenson also had two assists.

Andrew Kofstad got the shutout in goal making five saves on eight shots.

Caribou 2, John Bapst 0 — The Caribou Vikings traveled to Bangor to take on John Bapst Saturday looking to inch closer to evening their record.

The Vikings shut out the Crusaders 2-0.

Matt Milliard and Nolan McDuffie each scored an unassisted goal in the first half for Caribou. Milliard was credited with a goal for the 5-8 Vikings after a John Bapst own goal 22 minutes into the game. McDuffie added a goal on a penalty kick with eight minutes left.

Matt Manter made 11 saves on 16 shots.

Washburn 2, LCS/MSSM 0 — At Washburn Saturday, Mitchell Worcester scored a goal and assisted on another in the first half to spark Washburn by Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

The game was called with 32:52 left in the second half due to rain.

Jordan McLaughlin added a goal in the first half for the 10-2-1 Beavers. Zach Davis had four saves on four shots.

Bret Butler made 12 saves on 24 shots for the 2-9-2 Eagles.

Washburn 5, Van Buren 0 — At Van Buren Thursday, Mitch Worcester and Michael Ericson each had two goals and an assist to lead the Beavers to their ninth win.

Jordan McLaughlin added a goal and an assist for 9-2-1 Washburn.

Zach Davis made seven saves on 15 shots for Washburn, while Marc Lajoie made 17 saves on 25 shots for 6-7 Van Buren.

Caribou 4, Fort Kent 1 — The Caribou Vikings traveled to the St. John Valley on Wednesday to face the Fort Kent Warriors.

The Vikings received three assists from Dean Walker and goals from Chad Caverhill, Nick Whithead, Sean Barbosa and Cody Herbert to avenge a 3-2 home loss to the Warriors.

Matt Manter made three saves on 14 shots for 4-8 Caribou.

Central Aroostook 3, Fort Fairfield 1 — The Central Aroostook Panthers continued their march to the playoffs by dropping Fort Fairfield 3-1 on Oct. 11 in Fort Fairfield.

The Panthers scored three first-half goals en route to improving to 9-4-1.

Brandon Anthony recorded a goal and assist for the winners and Spencer Stetson and Dylan Murray each chipped in with an assist. Brandon Anthony added an assist and Ross Grass made eight saves on 13 shots.

Johnny Theriault scored off a penalty kick for 2-9-1 Fort Fairfield and Chris Weeks made 15 saves on 24 shots.

LCS/MSSM 3, Wisdom 0 — At Limestone Oct. 11, Tristan Kirk scored three goals, one in the first half and two in the second, to lead Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics to a 3-0 win over the Wisdom Pioneers.

Brandon Nadeau notched an assist for the 2-8-2 Eagles and Bret Butler made eight saves on 10 shots.

For 2-9-1 Wisdom, Nathan Oaks made 10 saves on 16 shots.
