Albert named Veteran of the Month

CARIBOU — Maurice Albert was recently named Veteran of the Month at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou.

Born on Feb. 13, 1925, in Caribou, Albert  grew up on Powers Road. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 6, 1944, serving as a truck driver. During World War II, he was stationed in the Ardennes, the Rhineland and in central Europe. As a result of his military service Albert received the WW II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the European/African/MiddleEastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars.

Following his military discharge on Feb. 19, 1946 the veteran returned to Caribou, and worked for area farmers and for the city as a laborer.  He later became a state foreman for the Department of Transportation working on county roads and public areas.

His hobbies have included hunting, fishing and camping throughout northern Maine, and he is proud to tell everyone that for more than 50 consecutive years, he went fishing in the north Maine woods.

The distinguished veteran is a member of the Lister/Knowlton VFW and the Henry B. Pratt, Jr., American Legion. 

A resident at the Maine Veterans’ Home since January, Albert he enjoys taking part in a number of different activities there.
