LIMESTONE — Construction of the new boarding home has encountered a few minor setbacks, but Town Manager Donna Bernier informed the Limestone Board of Selectpeople that, according to construction officials, the project is currently in the bidding phase and construction is slated to start either at the beginning of or by mid-November.

Officials had originally scheduled the project to break ground by Oct. 1.

During her town manager’s report, Bernier also informed the board of $181,380 in funding allocated for the Limestone Police Department through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) hiring program.

Selectperson Gary O’Neal informed his fellow board members of what he’s heard from constituents regarding the funding.

“The only thing I heard is that [the department’s] supposed to be getting smaller, not bigger,” O’Neal said.

The selectpeople also decided on the next vehicle for the Limestone Police Department: a 2013 Ford Tarurus Police Interceptor from York’s of Houlton for $23,977, which will take the place of the department’s older Crown Victoria.

While the Police Department awaits their new vehicle (the first new vehicle the department’s had in years), the selectpeople also discussed the possibility of obtaining a used van for the Limestone Recreation Department.

Bernier informed the board of a $5,000 recreational vehicle available at a dealership down in Winslow. Board members agreed to further investigate the condition of the vehicle.

Selectperson Chair Fred Pelletier raised a question during the meeting on the status of paving of certain roads in town.

Public Works Department Mike Cote explained to the board that the ground temperature needs to be above a minimum of 40 degrees to lay asphalt, and that contractor Trombley had tentatively planned to pave the roads yesterday and today.

The next meeting of the Limestone Selectpeople is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
