A Caribou man was killed yesterday when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and struck a home.

On Tuesday at approximately 1:38 p.m. Caribou police officers were called to assist the Caribou Fire Department at an accident that occurred just off of US Route 1, south of the Fort Street intersection.

According to Chief Gahagan, it appeared that Robert Larson, 63, of Caribou, left the roadway traveling south in his 1998 GMC pickup, hitting a house at 24 Patten Street and causing extensive damage to the residence and totaling the vehicle. Larson died at the scene.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Primary investigator is Officer Kevin St. Peter, who was assisted at the scene by other members of the department.

Members of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department and Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Maine Warden Service, also assisted at the accident.
