LIMESTONE — Two individuals were caught red-handed stealing gasoline from the Limestone Country Club’s golf carts on Sept. 9.

Limestone Police Chief Stacey Mahan and Officer Ron Guillemette apprehended the offenders while they were in the process of draining fuel from the golf carts at about 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 9. Guillemette and Mahan had observed the couple exhibiting suspicious behavior earlier in the evening. The pair had a hand pump, two hoses, and two large fuel containers as they prepared to siphon the fuel.

Officers with the Limestone Police Department had received two complaints regarding gasoline missing from the country club’s carts over the past month or two; an estimated 35 gallons of gas were taken from the country club during the first instance and approximately 21 gallons were stolen the second time.

Matthew Cocheran, 20, of Caribou and an unnamed female, 18, were both charged with theft and criminal trespass — both class E crimes punishable by up to six months in jail and fines up to $1,000.
