LIMESTONE — The antique farm equipment of the Limestone-Caswell Historical Society will soon have a permanent home, thanks to three days of effort from 25 volunteers — 19 wielding hammer and nails, five providing support services.

Volunteers worked all day on Wednesday to finish the brunt of the heavy construction portion of the new Limestone-Caswell Historical Society Barn, built to house the group’s antique farm equipment.

Most of the heavy building was accomplished on Wednesday, when the majority of volunteers pitched in. Efforts continued all day Thursday and again on Saturday.

There’s still a little work to be done on the new structure, but the brunt of the construction has been finished.

Funding to create the new barn came from a grant from the Aroostook County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation, with additional monies being provided by local donors; through the “Buy a Rafter” fund-raising project, 18 rafters of the new barn will display the names of the community members who supported the structure’s creation.

Project organizers expressed their appreciation for the generous contributions that made the new barn possible.

Fred Edgecomb, board member of the historical society, took the lead in orchestrating the project and was supported by President Robert King, Vice President Raymond Beaulieu, Secretary Cindy Edgecomb, Treasurer Marilyn Beaulieu and Corresponding Secretary Marilyn King.

The Limestone-Caswell Historical Society is open by appointment only; to schedule a tour, call King at 325-4971 or Beaulieu at 325-4937.
