Caribou Little League’s 11/12-year-old travel team came away with the Championship of the Millinocket Invitational Little League Tournament held this past weekend.

Jaelynn Doody, who plays first base for Savings Bank of Maine, hit a triple in the bottom of the first inning and went on to home plate on an error to tie the game up 1-1. Play was called in the 3rd inning due to inclement weather, and remained tied 1-1 against Sleepers. Full coverage of the Little League Championship next week in the Aroostook Republican.
Caribou’s team combined dominating pitching with a balanced hitting attack on their way to sweeping three games in the tournament. Over the three games, Caribou pitching allowed only 3 runs on 8 hits, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 26-3.
Caribou was presented with the Championship Trophy in a post-game ceremony, and were commended by tournament officials for their balanced team, as well as their demeanor and sportsmanship.
Following are summaries of Caribou’s three games:
Caribou 12, Calais 0
Caribou used a strong pitching performance by Donovan Savage and Gabe Massey, and got untracked at the plate to win their opening game in the Millinocket Invitational Little League Tournament.
Savage pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up 0 runs and only 2 hits while striking out 9 to earn the victory. Massey came in to pitch the final 1 1/3, allowing 0 hits and getting 4 strikeouts.
After a sluggish start for Caribou at the plate after the 2 plus hour drive to Millinocket, Ben Ezzy had a bases loaded single in the 4th inning to drive in 2 runs and get Caribou rolling. Caribou went on to score 5 runs in the 4th inning and 6 more in the 5th inning to put the game out of reach. Ezzy finished with 2 singles and 3 rbi, while Mason Huck and Savage each had 2 singles and 1 rbi. Caleb Willett had a double and 2 rbi, and Tyler Dombroski, Zach Wright, Noah Frost, Massey, and Hunter Milliard all chipped in with singles.
Caribou 4, Brewer 1
Caribou again used dominating pitching to hold off a strong Brewer team in the Millinocket Invitational Little League Tournament.
Caribou scored two runs in the first inning on a double by Zach Wright, followed by an rbi triple by Mason Huck. Jacob Burby knocked in Huck with an rbi groundout. Caribou got their other 2 runs in the 3rd inning when Huck walked and came around to score on a triple by Burby. Burby then scored on a passed ball.
Huck finished with 2 hits and an rbi, and Burby had the triple and 2 rbi. Zach Wright, with a double, and Ben Ezzy, with a single, had Caribou’s two other hits.
On the mound, Tyler Dombroski pitched 4 strong innings, allowing only 1 run on 2 hits, and striking out 6 to get the win. Burby shut the door in the final 2 innings, allowing only 1 hit while getting 4 strikeouts to earn the save.
Caribou 12, Millinocket 2
Caribou combined another solid pitching effort with strong hitting to defeat host Millinocket and capture the Championship of the Millinocket Invitational Little League Tournament.
At the plate for Caribou, Noah Frost had a double, single, and 2 rbi and Jacob Burby had a double and triple to pace the balanced attack. Donovan Savage and Zach Wright had triples, Austin Scott had a double, and Tyler Dombroski, Mason Huck, and Ben Ezzy added singles.
Caleb Willett started and pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on only 2 hits to get the victory. Frost came on for the final 1 1/3, allowing only 1 hit and getting 4 strikeouts to end the game.
