Birthdays and anniversaries
Belated birthday wishes go out to Missy Ham and Shirley Rand. Those celebrating their birthday on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17, include: Terry Forbes, DeeDee Stoddard, Jeremy Hartsgrove and Lorraine Theriault.    Anniversary wishes go out to Bill and Leisha Fitzherbert and Leroy and Francis Beaulier.
The month of March 2007 is the 95th birthday for Girl Scouting in the United States. If you see a Girl Scout in your travels, be sure and wish her a happy birthday.
Project Graduation Pageant
There will be a special and fun  Ms. Washburn Pageant with eight Washburn High senior boys as contestants. The show will be held on Saturday, March 31, at the high school and tickets will be available at the door.
The contestants include Matt Conley, Justin Dickinson, Nolan Gagnon, Chris Bouchard, Steve Pesut, Jon Silber, Adam Thompson and Troy Wilcox.
The pageant will consist of an opening dance routine performed by all the boys and each contestant will display his individual talent. They will each present a brief biography about themselves during the sportswear showing, this will be followed by a talent competition. There will be a question and answer segment in the formal wear portion of the show.
Among the awards will be the People’s Choice Award which the audience can buy the votes for their favorite contestant at a cost of  $1 each; the winner will be the one with the most votes.
Plans also include a 50/50 drawing and door prizes awarded throughout the evening. The final segment will be the official crowning of the 2007 Ms. Washburn.
Other events in the fund-raising efforts of the 2007 Project Graduation include a fun night featuring a special dinner along with Senior Service and Silent Auctions to be held at the high school. There will also be an auction for a new Old Town Canoe Otter Kayak, and tickets for this are $5 each for adults and $3 for children. Senior high school students still have a few jars of locally made honey, now selling for the reduced cost of $3 each at Griffin One Stop or can be purchased from a senior class member.
The seniors will also benefit from a special Bingo Night on April 27 at the Trail Runners clubhouse. The next scheduled Project Graduation Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. at the high school.

Parent Night
Washburn High School will be hosting its 8th grade Parent Night on March 21. The event will be at Washburn High School starting at 6 p.m. If you have any questions please contact Chris Hallett, guidance director, at 455-4501.
Municipal notes
Municipal Elections in Washburn will be held on Monday, March 19, with the polls open at the Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The 2007 Annual Reports are now in and are available at several area businesses and the Town Office.
Those running for the one three-year term available on the Washburn Town Council include: Keith Brown, Tom Bolstridge, Daren Churchill and Brad Bragg. There are three individuals running for two three-year terms on the Board of Directors of SAD 45 and they include: Cary Schumacher, Greg Doak and Allyson Bragdon.
There will also be a liquor referendum question on the March 19 ballot, dealing with the sale of hard liquor in Washburn on days other than Sunday.
Absentee ballots are now available at the Town Office for the Municipal Election; for further information on voting, phone 455-8485 from7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Those wishing ballots delivered to their homes must phone the Town Office and request one be delivered.
The annual Washburn Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. at the high school. All town residents are invited to attend, and copies of the town report should be available during the week of March 12.
The next scheduled Town Council meeting has been set for Monday, April 9, at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center.
Perham/Wade municipal notes
Perham has one three-year term open on the Board of Selectmen. Incumbent Woody Doody is currently running for re-election.
The Perham Municipal Elections will be held on Monday, March 19, at the Perham Town Office. The annual Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. at the Town Office.
Wade will hold their annual Town Meeting on Monday, March 19, at the Dunn Town Advent Christian Church at 7 p.m. Wade takes nominations from the floor and votes the night of the town meeting. Annual re-elections are held for Town Clerk, Tax Collector, Treasurer and School Board Directors. There is currently one opening for a member of the Wade Board of Selectmen, with incumbent Andy White running for re-election.
The Perham Planning Board presents Open Discussion Night on Salmon Brook Lake. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 3, at 7 p.m. at the Perham Town Hall and is open to all residents.
Rec Center schedule
There will be cross country skiing on Wednesday, March 14, from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m.
On Thursday, March 15, there will be indoor soccer held at the elementary school. Grades 5 – 6 will play from 5 to 6 p.m. and Grades 7 – 8 will play from 7 to 8 p.m.
On Friday, March 16, there will be downhill skiing or snowboarding at Big Rock for Grades 4 – 8. This event will go from 2:45 to 8 p.m. and is limited to the first 14 who sign up.
On Monday, March 19, there will be cross country skiing from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. There will be ben’s basketball from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
On Tuesday, March 20, there will be indoor soccer at the elementary school for Grades 3 – 4 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Events and reminders
TOPS meet each Monday at the Trail Runners clubhouse. For further information, contact Birdina Cochran at 566-8353.
There is Bingo each Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the snowmobile clubhouse, and Stew Night is Friday starting at 5 p.m. with breakfast served each Saturday and Sunday starting at 6 a.m.
Friday nights at the Trail Runners Snowmobile clubhouse on Station Road in Washburn includes some great country music. Donations are accepted with the proceeds going towards helping pay for the club’s new groomer.
Washburn’s Paul Clayton and Friends play at the K of C building in Presque Isle on the second and last Saturday of each month.
The Oscar Dow Post 48 of the American Legion holds  meetings on the third Tuesday of each month, with the next meeting scheduled for March 20.
The next scheduled August Festival meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Center.
The cookbooks from the Crouseville Advent Christian Church are now in and are available for a donation cost of $10. For further information on obtaining your copy, please contact Sherry Thibodeau at 764-0397 or Carolyn O’Donnell at 455-8437.
The annual Rotary Auction is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, and will be held at the high school, starting with appetizers served at 5 p.m. followed by their famous Turkey and Roast Beef Supper.
The annual auction will follow the supper and auction items are needed. Anyone wishing to donate to the auction may contact Auction Chairperson Peggy Bugbee at764-8424 or contact any Rotarian. The Rotary also has some 2007 calendars still available. The cost for the calendars is $10 and can be purchased from any Rotarian, Griffin One Stop or at White’s Exxon.
The Girl Scout cookies are in and being delivered in the near future. There may also be booth sales in the area. The Washburn seniors and the Eatwell Nutrition Program will meet on Friday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washburn Rec Center. The theme for the month is Go for the Greens and they’ll be using a variety of fresh vegetables to help with the 5-A-Day for Better Heath Project.

Correction notice: The price of the following tickets was incorrect for the past two issues of the paper. The price listed below is the correct one. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
The library is currently selling tickets for a St. Patrick’s Day raffle to be held on Saturday, March 17. The prize is a queen-size quilt made by Carolyn Hayden. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and can be purchased at the library, Washburn Food Mart or Katahdin Trust Bank where the quilt is currently on display. All proceeds will go for Washburn Library programming.

On Wednesday, March 14, there will be a Board of Trustees meeting held at the library at 7 p.m. The current Trustees are: Ellie Snyder, Harold Leonard, Bill Forbes, Sue Fuller, Gary Cole, Karen Milton, Cheryle Mattowitz and Linda Bourgoine.
On Monday, March 26, the Middle School Reading Group will meet at the library at 5 p.m. The book to be under discussion is “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
