The Caribou Rotary Club purchased an electronic scoreboard for the Caribou Little League’s Rotary Field. Pictured in front of the addition are Arik Jepson of the Caribou Little League board of directors, left, and Doug Hunter, president-elect of the Caribou Rotary Club.
In 2010, players and league representatives began an approximate $10,000 fundraising campaign to eventually purchase the scoreboards. A camper raffle fundraiser was held throughout the summer and Caribou Little League calendars were sold.
League representatives calculated enough funds for the purchase of one scoreboard at the conclusion of the 2010 season in late July. After approaching the Caribou Rotary Club about a possible donation, it was determined that the Rotary Club would continue their outstanding support (through their annual Rotary raffle) to the Caribou Little League program and donate a sum of $5,000 towards the scoreboard project specifically for the field they sponsor, the Rotary Field. The cost of each scoreboard turned out to be less than the anticipated $5,000, but the Rotary Club stuck with the original estimate and asked the extra money be put towards the replacement of the field signage (work done by SignTech of Caribou) on the Rotary Field.
In late 2010, the two scoreboards were purchased and erected between the two fields on Marshall Avenue
Arik Jepson, Caribou Little League board member commented, “The Caribou Rotary Club has been a long time supporter of Caribou Little League and again stepped up to the plate to help us with yet another project.”
S.W. Collins and Aroostook County Electric Supply donated the materials to build the frame and prepare the groundwork for the scoreboards while Francis Damboise of Damboise Electric also donating his time and supplies to complete the electrical work.
The scoreboards were officially unveiled at the annual Opening Ceremonies on May 12.
