LEEDS and CARIBOU — Steven E. Whaley died unexpectedly, Sunday, April 17, 2011, at his home. He was born February 12, 1957, in Caribou, the son of Elwood and Blanche (Walker) Whaley. He graduated from Caribou High School Class of 1957. He worked for more than 20 years as a landscaper for Wheeler Landscaping of Manchester and later for D.R. Struck of Winthrop and most recently, for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as an electrician. He was a great fan of the Boston Red Sox and made several trips to Boston with his son to watch them play. His greatest joy was watching his son play basketball and football for the Winthrop Ramblers, of which he was a great team supporter. He loved to cook and B.B.Q. for all his son’s friends as they gathered at his home. He also loved to fish and spend time with his companion Jacoby, his golden retriever.
Steven was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Seren A. Whaley in 2005 and a brother, Stuart Whaley. He leaves behind and will be sadly missed by his sons, Scylur S. Whaley of Leeds, Michael O’Leary of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Staci Landeen of Caribou; a special aunt, Lola McBreairty of Caribou; a close friend, Sid Maltese of Vassalboro; one niece; two nephews of New Sweden; many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Visiting hours were held Saturday, April 23, from 10-11 am at Rober’s Funeral Home in Winthrop with services following.
