Little Tasha, an 8-week-old female kitten, is being fostered along with her five siblings by student volunteer Abby Theriault of Caribou. Abby has fostered several litters of homeless and orphaned kittens for Halfway Home Pet Rescue (HHPR) and she has developed a keen sense of their needs. She’s learned how to encourage each kitten to become a calm, happy and clean family pet. Abby is supported in her fostering endeavor by her parents Cole and Lindsey Theriault. “Without dedicated volunteers like Abby, HHPR would not be able to help so many kittens and cats as our space is limited,” explained Halfway Home Pet Rescue President Norma Milton. “A home environment with a responsible and loving foster family is the safest and healthiest place for a young kitten, who lacks natural immunity against contagious illnesses.” According to Milton, several Caribou High School students have earned their 50 hours of community service for high school by volunteering at the rescue. HHPR will be needing more student volunteers during the week proceeding the May 21-22 Caribou City-Wide Yard Sale. FMI: e-mail Norma@halfwayhomepetrescue.org. The rescue will host yard sales at two sites; 8 Pleasant St., and 11 Pioneer Ave., in Caribou. “We would be grateful for donations of nicely-used items,” Milton said. Donation may be dropped off at either location. All proceeds from the yard sales will be earmarked for cat medical care and spay/neuter vouchers for the kittens. Should the weather cooperate this weekend, HHPR volunteers will be holding a garage sale on Saturday, April 23 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at 11 Pioneer Avenue. HHPR is a 501c3 non-profit corporation and a state licensed animal shelter.
