The Sunrise Conference announced its 2010-11 All-Conference Teams Feb. 25 at the annual basketball awards dinner held at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland. Three University of Maine at Presque Isle student-athletes were named to the all-conference team for their outstanding play throughout this past season.
The Owl women’s basketball team was represented by sophomore Emily Pelletier, who was named to the first team. She averaged 11.4 points per game, including a 44 percent shooting effort from behind the three-point arc. Freshman Rashell Saucier earned a spot on the all-conference second team. She finished the season with an 11 ppg average and pulled down 7.4 rebounds per game.
UMPI senior Clifford McDonald was named to the all-conference men’s basketball first team. He averaged 18 ppg and 9.3 rebounds per game for the Owls.
Several student-athletes earned top-scholar awards. In fact, the Owls earned the most scholar-athlete awards among Sunrise Conference schools.
Representing the women’s team as scholar-athletes were senior Megan Korhonen and junior Emily Moore. Representing the men’s basketball team as scholar-athletes were junior Kyle Corrigan, sophomore Patrick Manifold and sophomore Brad Trask.
Manifold was also awarded the most outstanding scholar-athlete award for men’s basketball. The award is given to the student-athlete who had the highest GPA among his fellow peers within in the conference.
Also recently announced were the Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball teams, which were selected by the coaches. McDonald made the first team, while Manifold earned a spot on the second team.
Pelletier was named to the first team and Saucier to the second team of The Association of Division III Independents all-conference women’s team.
The Association of Division III Independents consists of 13 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted post-season championship competition.
