Officials with the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) have announced A/B East and C/D East player selections for the for the 2011 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games.
Several players from the central Aroostook area will take part, including Jenna Selander of Caribou for the A/B East girls, Travis Dyer of Presque Isle for the A/B East boys, Brooke Beaulieu of Fort Fairfield for the C/D East girls, Caleb Kelly and Logan McLaughlin, both of Central Aroostook and Travis Noyes of Fort Fairfield for the C/D East boys.
Larry Gardner of Fort Fairfield will coach on the C/D East girls team and Travis Carter of Easton will coach the C/D East boys team.
Players representing 62 high schools from across the state have been honored with selection to the All-Star teams. The All-Stars were selected based upon ballot returns on a statewide high school basketball coaches’ vote conducted by the MABC in January.
“Since 1988, the local owner/operators of Maine’s McDonald’s restaurants have been committed to recognizing student athletes across the state with this hallmark sporting event,” said Gary Eckmann, local Maine McDonald’s owner/operator and board president of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Maine. “We salute the Maine McDonald’s All-Star Team players for their dedication to academic and athletic excellence, sportsmanship and team spirit.”
The 2011 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Games will be played at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor on Saturday, March 12. The game-day program will feature head-to-head competition between top players in the state’s A/B and C/D boys and girls divisions.
The March 12 game day schedule is as follows: 8:30- 9 a.m., state foul shooting championship; 9:15-10:30 a.m., Boys C/D game; 10:30-10:45 a.m., slam dunk competition; 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Boys A/B game; 12:15-1 p.m., awards presentations; 1:15-2:30 p.m., Girls A/B game; 2:30-2:45 p.m., three-point shooting competition and 3-4:15 p.m., Girls C/D game.
Representing the North region in the foul shooting competition are Dyer and Carmen Bragg of Washburn.
All-star players, all-star coaches, members of the all-state academic teams, regional foul shooting champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award recipients, the MABC Contributor Award honoree, and Mr. and Miss Basketball will be recognized at an awards banquet on Friday, March 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Husson University’s Newman Gymnasium.
Game day tickets may be purchased at the door on Saturday, March 12 and are good for all four games. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and children.
