Participants in the 2011 “Dancing Like a Star” spectacular, set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Caribou Performing Arts Center include students, teachers and other community members who will partner up and strive to dance their way to the winner’s circle. The fundraiser will benefit the CHS Class of 2012. Dancing dynamites are, in front, from left: Meredith Sleeper, Rita Zbylut, Annie Collins, Jessica Bell, Paige Small, Daniel Fishman, Andrew Kirby and Kjetil Rossignol. Row two: Duncan Flynn, Bill Schofield, Sharon Pelletier, Sue Keaton, Jessica Umel, Chadwick Caverhill and Kathy Mazzuchelli. In back are: Sarae Sager, Delaney Williams, Emma Duplissie-Cyr, Samy Camy and Demarre Doody-Corriveau.
During the event as CHS students pair up with a faculty or community member, audience members will watch closely as the couple displays their dancing prowess. Once all of the dynamo duos have completed their dancing in fleet-footed fashion, audience members will pay $1 for the right to vote for their favorite couple and may vote as many times as their dollars allow.
The winners of the friendly dance competition, which is always filled with toe-tapping music, impressive dance steps and countless laughs, earns the right to have their names engraved on the Dancing Like a Star trophy.
The March 13 event marks the third year that “Dancing Like a Star” has been held, sponsored by respective CHS classes, with monies raised designated toward their graduation fund. Last year DLAS raised more than $3,000.
Jane Mavor Small, who assists with organizing the project stated, “It really isn’t all about dance — the adults are such good sports to do this and the bond the kids make with them is a bonus.”
Take the varied group of talented individuals included in the full slate of dancers, add good-natured ribbing, a healthy dose of ‘self-promoting’ when it comes time to vote and — add Kjetil Rossignol and Duncan Flynn, two more very talented CHS students, as the evening’s masters of ceremonies and it’s guaranteed you won’t want the evening to come to a close.
Featured participants in the Dancing Like a Star fundraiser include: Meredith Sleeper, Rita Zbylut, Annie Collins, Jessica Bell, Paige Small, Daniel Fishman, Andrew Kirby and Kjetil Rossignol. Also Duncan Flynn, Bill Schofield, Sharon Pelletier, Sue Keaton, Jessica Umel, Chadwick Caverhill, Kathy Mazzuchelli, Sarae Sager, Delaney Williams, Emma Duplissie-Cyr, Samy Camy and Demarre Doody-Corriveau.
Tickets for the Dancing Like a Star event are $5 and will be available at the door.
