FORT KENT, Maine – Daigle Oil Co. and the Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure have partnered to raise money and spread breast cancer awareness in Aroostook and Penobscot counties. The two entered into an agreement Dec. 13, 2010. DOC made a $5,000 donation to Komen Maine Affiliate and has plans to organize fundraisers and inspire people to get involved within the communities they serve. When DOC owners Rick Daigle and Dan Vaillancourt were discussing options about how to give back to the community, they didn’t have to search far.
“Promoting breast cancer awareness is a personal cause for many of our employees whose lives and families have been touched by cancer,” said Vaillancourt. “The fight to end breast cancer is a worthwhile cause and we are proud to have teamed with this charity.”
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the most progressive grassroots organization fighting breast cancer today. Thanks to survivors, volunteers and activists dedicated to the fight against breast cancer, the Komen Affiliate Network is the nation’s largest private funder of community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs. Seventy-five percent of the net income from the Komen Maine Affiliate based in Bangor is dedicated to fighting breast cancer in Maine communities. Since beginning in 1997, the Komen Maine Affiliate has invested over $1.9 million in education, screening and treatment programs in the state. For more information about Susan G.
