Losses in dual meets have not come very often for the Caribou varsity wrestling team, but the squad tasted a rare defeat Saturday in a match against Ellsworth held in Bangor.

The Vikings lost the match, 40-33, and are now 17-2 on the season.

“We didn’t have as good of a performance against Ellsworth,” said Caribou coach Todd Albert, “but hopefully it will help to refocus to improve.”

Caribou did win its other two matches – at Fort Kent last Tuesday and over John Bapst Saturday.

Deion Caudill, Lance Jandreau and Jason Case all went a perfect 4-0 on the week, which includes individual victories over Orono opponents Saturday afternoon. Brendon Wood and Jandreau were credited by their coach with having strong performances in the match at Fort Kent.

The Vikings have just three more regular season matches scheduled, to be held Saturday at Mount Desert Island with PCHS and Mattanawcook the other opponents on the afternoon. After that is the championship portion of the schedule, beginning with the Jan. 29 Penobscot Valley Conference Championships at Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln.

“We now just have meets on Saturdays, so the focus each week is to be prepared and wrestle well each Saturday,” Albert said.
