Volunteers to hand out window weatherization kits in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King

CARIBOU — In partnership with Catholic Charities Home Supplies and Food Bank, representatives of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England’s AmeriCorps program will be handling our free window weatherization kits on Saturday, Jan. 15, to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. Goodwill Industries of Northern New England and Catholic Charities’ staff will join hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country in making the holiday a day on, not a day off, by serving others.

“Martin Luther King devoted his life to advancing equality and social justice. He taught us that everyone has a role to play in working towards these goals,” said Morgan January, Goodwill AmeriCorps member and nutrition coordinator for Catholic Charities Home Supplies and Food Bank, in Caribou. “By serving today and throughout the year, we honor Dr. King and help realize his dream of opportunity for all,” she added.

The Day of Service will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Catholic Charities Home Supplies and Food Bank. Individuals can pick up free window weatherization kits, materials and energy efficiency information during this time.

Many organizations are using MLK Day as a springboard for service throughout the year. “Because of the economic downturn, needs in our community are particularly great right now. Addressing the challenges that many low-income individuals face throughout Aroostook County will take a sustained effort, and we hope many who are serving today will make an ongoing commitment to serve throughout the year,” said January.
