Skidgel, Mae L., 90, of Caribou, at Caribou, on January 8, 2011. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., January 12 at the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.


AR Mae SkidgelCARIBOU – Mae L. Skidgel, 90, died Jan. 8, 2011, in Caribou. She was born April 2, 1920, in Perham, daughter of the late George and Cordelia (Twist) Wilcox.

Mrs. Skidgel was employed at Taterstate Foods, Washburn, for a number of years. She was a lifelong member of North Star Pentecostal Church, where she became the church organist at age 12. Mae was predeceased by her husband of more than 60 years, Harley Kenneth Skidgel, in 2006; her daughter, Carla Skidgel; and two grandsons, Henry Hartsgrove and Kendall Harley Skidgel II.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Mayland and Patricia Hartsgrove and Kendall and Jodi Skidgel, all of Presque Isle; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Maynard Curtis of Storrs, Conn., Virginia Liotonne of Connor, Georgia Mae and Vernon Grantham of Somerset, Pa., and Elizabeth and Cleave Maynard of Perham; one brother, the Rev. Eldon Wilcox of Caribou; 28 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends called 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, with the Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Interment will be at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery. Mae’s favorite saying was, and she would always want us to remember, “Good, better, best; never let it rest, till your good is better and your better is best.” www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
