Center closed
The Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center will be open New Year’s Eve from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., but will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 1 in observance of New Year’s Day.
Elks Hoop Shoot
Open to boys and girls ages 8-13, the Elks Hoop Shoot will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 10 a.m. There is no fee for this program. Local winners advance to the district, state, regional and national competitions. Pre-registration is required. Age is determined as of April 1, 2011.
Girls basketball
Girls basketball for grades 4-6 will begin on Jan. 10 and run through March 16. This program meets on Monday and Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m. .
Boys basketball
Boys basketball is for boys in grades 5 and 6 and begins Jan. 11 and runs through March 17. This program meets on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays from 3-5 p.m.
Back country trip planned
Skiing does not always have to be on a groomed ski trail. Aroostook County offers many hidden places that can be found on skis. A cross country ski adventure for youths in grades 3-6 will take place Thursday, Dec. 30. This trip from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. is $5 which includes a trailside hot lunch. Skis are provided, but those who have their own welcome to bring them. Pre-registration is required and limited to 12 participants.
Youth ski rental program
The Northern Skiers and the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department have partnered to bring the youth ski rental program back to the community. This year, rentals will be available to all Caribou youth and include skis, boots, poles and a carrier for a fee of $80 which includes a $20 refund upon return of the equipment in the spring.
