Mills, A. Leigh, 86, at Chandler, Ariz., on December 1, 2010. A memorial and interment service is being planned for July 2011, in Caribou.
A. Leigh Mills passed way on December 1, 2010, in Chandler, Arizona after a short illness. He lived in Caribou and Cape Elizabeth for many years prior to his retirement. He was born in St. John, Maine (Aroostook County) on April 21, 1924, the son of Albert T. Mills and Vivian (Mullen) Mills.
He graduated from Caribou High School in 1943 and served in the U.S.Army during WW II. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He attend Husson College and worked as a Territory Manager for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1986. After retirement, he lived in Spring Hill, Florida for many years prior to moving to Arizona and also spent the summer months at his camp at Cross Lake in northern Maine. He was active in many civic organizations, including being a life member of the VFW Post of Caribou and the American Legion in Caribou. He was a lifetime member the Trinity Masonic Lodge #130 in Presque Isle and of the Kora Temple Shrine. He was past president of the Caribou Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hylyn (McConnell) Mills, a son and daughter-in-law, James and Laura Mills of Chandler, Ariz. and a daughter, Nancy J. Mills of Cape Neddick. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Dawn Busnarda of Kensington, Conn. He was predeceased in death by two sons, S. Timothy Mills and Jay A. Mills as well as his sister, Mrs. Wilma Silver. He is survived by four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial and interment service is being planned for July 2011, in Caribou. The date and time to be determined. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou, Maine.
