THETFORD, VT – The 76th New England High School Interscholastic Cross Country Championship was held Saturday, and several local runners earned the right to compete in the five-kilometer race.
The entire Caribou boys cross country team qualified by winning the Class B championship in Belfast Oct. 30. The team members’ times and placements at the New England meet were as follows: Christian Sleeper, 139th, 18:41.8; Caleb Chapman, 155th, 18:51.5; D.J. Flynn, 156th, 18:51.9; Ryan Washington, 216th, 19:31.1; Jacob Michaud, 235th, 19:50.1; Jesse Sandstrom, 243rd, 20:08.1; and Kjetil Rossignol, 249th, 20:20.9.
A total of 264 runners competed in the boys’ race. The Vikings placed 27th out of 30 teams.
Carsyn Koch, a Washburn District High School freshman who had qualified by winning the Maine Class C Championships in Belfast, came in 44th out of 255 competitors in the girls race with a time of 21 minutes, 7.9 seconds.
