LIMESTONE — It was a successful dance for the Limestone Rotary Club and the Historical Society on Oct. 30, and not just because members from both organizations can surely find their way around a dance floor; the Harvest Dance was attended by roughly 70 movers and shakers of the community and through their participation, the Historical Society raised over $200 toward the organization’s barn project, Limestone Project Graduation raised over $100 and Rotarians raised $80 in tickets after expenses.

Limestone Recreation Department Director and Rotarian Amanda Brooker and Limestone Rotary Club President Dr. Dottie Martin received a $100 check on behalf of the organization from Sound Friendships band member Lela Lions during the Harvest Dance on Oct. 30..
“This was the first Harvest Dance we’ve ever had and it was great to see people in the community getting out to have some fun,” said Limestone Recreation Department Director and Rotarian Amanda Brooker, “It only gets better from here!”
The band Sound Friendships rocked the dance and have generated quite a bit of positive chatter in the community since then, but fame certainly hasn’t changed the band’s generous nature — during the dance, Sound Friendships donated $100 to the Limestone Rotarians.
The band wasn’t the only talented performance during the dance, however, as the Limestone Line Dancers and the Limestone Square Dancers put on impressive displays of showmanship.

The band Sound Friendships had the Limestone crowd on their feet during the Harvest Dance on Oct. 30.
“Our local square dancers and line dancers did a fantastic job; they put a lot of work into their performances for the night and it was nice for them to show off their talent and hard work,” Brooker said. “It was also great to see Spuddy, Miss Limestone Audra Kirk and Junior Miss Limestone Ellyzabeth Bencivenga come out to celebrate with us. The whole evening was about community.”
Even local businesses, like the Gilles Michaud Farms, contributed to the evening offering up door prizes to dance participants.
The Rotary Club, The Historical Society, the Maine School of Science and Mathematics Key Club worked with the Limestone Recreation Department to provide the Veterans’ Gym as a venue for the event.
“It’s like to thank them as well as the Limestone Project Graduation Class of 2011 for all their hard work,” Brooker said.

While many were shy at first to make their way onto the dance floor, nothing brought couples together quite like a slow dance at the first ever Harvest Dance in Limestone on Oct. 30 in the Veterans’ Gym.
