Eloise Larsson Anderson, born Feb. 25, 1916, recently became New Sweden’s latest recipient of the Boston Cane Award. The Boston Cane, presented to the eldest citizen in a community, was awarded to Mrs. Anderson, 94, on Oct. 12 during a public luncheon held at the New Sweden Covenant Church Cafe. Edmund Anderson, Eloise’s late husband was the previous New Sweden resident who was recognized with the cane. Presenting the cane and a certificate are New Sweden Selectmen Doug Anderson, left, and Mike Stotler. The first Boston Cane award originated in 1907 and was presented by the Boston Newspaper Company. Eloise Anderson will have the framed certificate to display in her home while the cane itself, will be placed in the New Sweden Historical Museum beneath her name and will remain there until her death.
