ACAP to offer low income heat assistance

Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) will be administering the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) again this year. LIHEAP provides financial assistance to eligible low-income households to offset the high cost of home heating. Eligible households are entitled to one LIHEAP benefit per heating season.

ACAP staff will be contacting those households who were eligible for LIHEAP last year to begin processing this year’s application or to schedule an appointment to take an application. These previously eligible households should hear from ACAP by the end of this month.

All other households that would like to schedule an appointment to complete an application for fuel assistance may call the Presque Isle ACAP office beginning Sept. 7 at 800-585-3053 or 768-3053 to schedule an appointment at a site nearest them. Arrangements may also be made to visit homebound individuals. Anyone who would like to obtain additional information about LIHEAP may call ACAP Community Services at 800-585-3053 or 768-3053.

At this time the benefit amount is unknown and funds are not expected to become available until October. Further information regarding income guidelines based on household size will be available at a later date.
