Pee wee soccer

The pee wee soccer program for boys and girls in grades 2 and 3 will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:50-4:30 p.m. at the small soccer field located in front of the Fort Fairfield Elementary School beginning this week and ending Oct. 19.

Participants should meet in the elementary school cafeteria after school and be properly equipped and clothed for the program, including sneakers or soccer shoes, shin guards, and clothing appropriate for the weather of the day. 

Teams may be selected from all those who register, depending on the number of participants to enroll in the program.

Youth soccer

The youth soccer program is for boys and girls in grades 4-6 and will be held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:50-4:30 p.m. at the small soccer field located in front of the Fort Fairfield Elementary School beginning this week and ending Oct. 20.

Sixth-graders participating on the middle school soccer teams are reminded that they can play youth soccer as well as middle school soccer and if there is a conflict on certain days between the two programs, you are encouraged to fulfill your commitment to the middle school team first (middle school soccer will end on Sept. 25).

Youth soccer travel team

The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will have a youth soccer travel team this fall that will participate in as many as six Saturday “round robin” soccer tournaments beginning on Sept. 11 in Washburn and ending Oct. 16 in Presque Isle.

Any boy or girl in grades 4-6 from Fort Fairfield who is registered and intends to participate in the after-school youth soccer program is eligible to play on the Fort Fairfield travel team. The travel team will practice every Friday afternoon from 2:50-4:30 p.m. on the small soccer field located in front of the elementary school (please meet in the cafeteria after school).

The Saturday “round robin” tournament schedule is as follows: Sept. 11 in Washburn, Sept. 18 in Mars Hill, Sept. 25 in Limestone, Oct. 2 in Caribou, Oct. 9 in Madawaska and Oct. 16 in Presque Isle (County championship tournament).

All-Star Gymnastics

The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation department is hosting a six-week session of gymnastics that is being conducted by Allison Wheeler and All-Star Gymnastics.

The program will be held on six consecutive Mondays at the Fort Fairfield Community Center beginning Sept. 13. Beginner gymnastics for ages 3-5 will be held from 5:15-6 p.m. This class will cover all aspects of gymnastics at the beginner level, including bars, beam, vault and tumbling. Class time will focus on learning basic gymnastics as well as following instructions and learning to respect coaches and classmates.

Intermediate gymnastics for ages 6 and over will be held from 6-7 p.m. Children in the intermediate class will be challenged according to their individual skill level in the various aspects of gymnastics.

Tumbling for junior and senior high school students will be held from 7-8 p.m. This class will focus on tumbling only, with an emphasis on skills needed for cheer tumbling. This class will include all levels of tumbling from beginner to advanced. Students will work on building the necessary muscle strength for tumbling as well as flexibility.

Registration forms are available at the community center or at school. The cost is $40 per student for the intermediate and tumbling classes and $30 per student for the beginner class.
