LIMESTONE — It was a two-hour meeting for the Limestone Selectpeople on Aug. 18, during which the selectpeople discussed the FY2010/11 mil rate and the status of the build schedule for the new Limestone Manor.

Town Manager Donna Bernier reported that the Davis Long Term Care Group have postponed construction of the proposed new Limestone Manor facility until spring of 2011. She also informed the selectpeople a tax calculations worksheet was completed with a mil rate of 22 and an overlay of $8,155 which is scheduled to be voted on at the meeting this evening.

Almost half of the meeting was spent in executive session first with Limestone Code Enforcement Officer Rebecca McBreairty regarding legal issues; upon returning from the session the selectpeople voted unanimously to bring the interior and exterior of the discussed building into code compliance no later than yesterday evening.

The selectpeople considered a poverty abatement in a second executive session, voting unanimously upon return to deny the tax abatement request.

Bernier also updated the selectpeople on the status of the ambulance committee, which was formed to determine the feasibility of establishing an ambulance service run by Limestone. Based on a meeting she had with committee members, Bernier reported that committee was seeking additional information and that another meeting will be held at a later date. She also mentioned that the new Limestone Recreation Director Amanda Brooker has created a new activities brochure that includes a list of all scheduled programs and activities.

The selectpeople received bids for the replacement of the furnace of the Municipal Building which they tabled until tonight’s selectpeople’s meeting held at 6:30.

The selectpeople considered closing the Burgoine Road for the winter and after a public hearing held earlier that evening yielded no public opposition, the selectpeople approved the road closure. Peter Page asked that the town consider keeping part of the Burgoine Road plowed so that he might access his potato house, which the selectpeople approved.

In other public comments, Jim Cote questioned the board as to whether or not the Weatherhead family — who owns the parcel of land that the Davis Long Term Care Group is interested in building part of their new facility is on — should receive a signed commitment of the town’s intent to purchase the land; the selectpeople expressed that they are looking at other parcels of land around town but are interested in purchasing the Weatherhead’s land.
