From breakfast baked goods to a fresh hot lunch on those days when there isn’t time to brown bag it, to the gasoline needed to fuel your vehicle and the coffee needed to fuel your day — with school bells ringing, harvest season looming and daylight waning, Ouellette’s is a great place to pick up everything needed to fuel a busy family on the go.
Ouellette’s Variety, located at 342 Sweden Street in Caribou, is a full service convenience store offering a little bit of everything from groceries and fresh-baked goods to gas, work gloves and the little things that few realize they need until they’re out — like mustard.
Because Ouellette’s owners Fred and Lisa Degenhardt realize that their customers need items like mustard, ketchup or Pepsi whether it’s dinner time or dead-of-night, the variety store is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 352 days a year.
“We want customers to be comfortable with their shopping experience when they visit our store,” the Degenhardts said. “We work hard to ensure that they are happy with the products we sell and the services we provide.”
Not only is Ouellette’s a convenient stop for someone in need of a carton of eggs or a gallon of milk late in the evening, Ouellette’s is also a hot spot for athletes and spectators all year long looking for just the right quick meal or snack fix.
The Degenhardts first purchased the well-known, long-established variety store in January of 2008 from original owners Bob and Alice Ouellette; while the shop’s owners may have changed during approximately 24 years of business, customers are still receiving the same great services and products whenever they visit Ouellette’s Variety.
When the Degenhardts first purchased the business, they made a few changes by expanding the grocery line and better utilizing the available space by arranging the aisles. They also expanded the bakery section, which sells over 30 homemade whoopie pies on any given day in addition to any number of cakes, cookies, squares, breads, rolls, biscuits and doughnuts.
The shop also sells breakfast sandwiches, fried chicken, pizza by the slice, salads, beans, cold and hot sandwiches and sliced deli meats.
