LIMESTONE – Patrick H. Pelkey, 67, passed away Friday morning, August 13, 2010, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, after an extended illness. He was born July 22, 1943, in Limestone, the son of William and Edith (Hurd) Pelkey. Patrick was educated in the Limestone school system and had been employed in the potato farming industry for many years by several area growers including Pollack’s, Nightingale Farms, Cassidy Farms and Johnson Farms, all of Fort Fairfield, Harold Kinney Farms of Easton and Butch Tardy Farms of Limestone. An avid outdoorsman, Patrick enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his youth, Patrick was an accomplished baseball player and throughout his life enjoyed the sport and was a dedicated Red Sox fan. He also greatly enjoyed Nascar, his favorite driver being Dale Earnhardt.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pelkey was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and David Pelkey; one sister, Cecile Rhodes; one brother-in-law, Norman Guthrie. He is survived by his companion of many years, Sally Sullivan of Limestone; one son, William S. Pelkey of Lewiston; four daughters, Diana E. Pelkey and her companion Eric Johnston, both of Fort Fairfield, Holly M. Morrison and her husband Greg of Milton, Florida, Stacey L. Baker and her husband Kelly of Wade, Patricia A. Pelkey and her companion Brent Rafford, both of Caribou; two brothers, James Pelkey and his wife Angela of Limestone, Roger Pekley and his wife Janet of Caribou; two sisters, Norma Guthrie of Caribou, Mary Lou Conlin and her husband Tom of Mass.; six grandchildren, Shawn Dufour of Caswell, Jennifer Dufour of Fort Fairfield, Derek Baker of Wade, Nicholas Allen of Caribou, Christian Pelkey of Lewiston, Blake Rafford of Caribou; one great-grandson, Brayden Rodden of Fort Fairfield; one special “daughter” his cat “Pumpkin”; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends called Monday, August 16, 2010, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service was conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, 302 Main Street, Limestone, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the church reception area, immediately after the Funeral Mass. Private interment will be held at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Pelkey to his family, c/o Diane Pelkey, 80 Fort Hill Street, Fort Fairfield, 04742, to be donated according to their wishes.
