High school season under way

The Tiger soccer squads were busy to start the season, with both teams playing games Friday and Monday.

Both squads split their opening contests and next host Central Aroostook this afternoon, with the boys playing at 5:30 p.m. and the girls game following at 7:30 p.m.

The Limestone/MSSM girls fell in its opener at home Friday to Washburn.

The Caribou teams kick off their regular season Friday at home against Madawaska. The girls play at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

Summaries of games played last week are as follows:

Wisdom boys 2, Fort Fairfield 1 (OT)

At Fort Fairfield Friday in the regular season opener for both squads, Curtis Picard scored with just 1:18 to play in overtime to lift the visiting Pioneers of St. Agatha to the victory.

Picard put his team in front with a first-half goal, which came with 13:27 left before intermission, but Fort’s Travis Noyes came up with the equalizer with 28:06 to play in the second half.

All three goals were unassisted. Wisdom’s Ryan Blanchette saved 11 of 12 shots, while the Tigers’ Chris Weeks turned away nine of 11 attempts.

Fort Fairfield girls 10, Wisdom 1

Kacie York wasted little time in getting her Tiger team’s offense going in their regular-season debut Friday. York scored just 1:22 into the game and several teammates got involved in the attack later in the game as Fort Fairfield rolled to the victory.

Logan Bubar scored three goals, Janae Libby and York had two each and Abbey Player, Kylie Plourde and Jessica Goshorn netted one apiece in the triumph. Libby also had two assists in the contest, while Bubar added another.

Fort Fairfield outshot the Pioneers, 40-4, with Katy Donovan of the Tigers allowing just one goal, which was scored by Krystal Paradis.

Washburn girls 4, Limestone-MSSM 2

The Beavers doubled up on the Eagles in Limestone Friday, thanks to a pair of goals by Carsyn Koch and one each from Carmen Bragg and Kennedy Churchill. Bragg also had an assist for the winners.

Rayah Saucier saved 14 of 20 shots in goal for Washburn.

Amanda Allen had two goals, both coming in the second half, for the host Eagles. Daniele Pelkey had an assist. Limestone-MSSM goalie Autumn Beauchamp saved 20 of 33 shots.

Fort Fairfield boys 2, Van Buren 0

The Tigers claimed a big road win Monday, using two goals by Noyes to upend the Crusaders.

Weeks picked up the shutout in goal with seven saves on 10 shots, while Marc LaJoie of Van Buren saved five of nine in net.

Van Buren girls 4, Fort Fairfield 1

Parise Rossignol scored all four Crusaders goals in Monday’s victory over the visiting Tigers.

Libby scored off a Plourde assist late in the first half for Fort Fairfield’s lone goal. Donovan saved 18 shots in goal for the Tigers while facing 22 shots. Ashlie Wilson of Van Buren had 10 saves on 11 shots.
