LPD goes the distance to catch assailant

LIMESTONE — Limestone Police Officers took a trek up north on Saturday in order to track down the assailant from a domestic assault first reported in Limestone during the early morning hours on Aug. 14 at an Access Highway address.

Limestone Police Officer Dan Gahagan responded to the scene, where the victim told the officer that a Madawaska man had broken into her home and forced himself on her; when she managed to escape and call the police. The man, who she identified as Douglas Collins, has allegedly fled.

 

Officer Ryan Eagles and Investigator John DeVeau, both of the Limestone Police Department, joined Gahagan at the scene to assist with the investigation.

Roughly 10 hours later at 2:20 p.m., Officer Kevin Deschaine of the Madawaska Police Department located Collins at his Madawaska residence. Officer Deschaine transported Collins to the Madawaska Police Department, where he was joined by Limestone Police Officers.

Officer Gahagan and Investigator DeVeau interviewed Collins and obtained information that led to Collins’ arrest. His is charged with burglary class B, domestic assault class D, domestic violence criminal threatening class D, criminal mischief class D and harassment by telephone class D.

Collins was released on a $2,500 secure bail.
