Spooner, Kenneth B., 67, Lakeland, July 24, 2010. On August 18, at 2 p.m., at the Maine Veterans Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta, a Military Service will be held.


American Flag ColorAR Kenneth SpoonerLAKELAND – Kenneth Bradford Spooner, 67, of Lakeland, Florida and Strong, Maine died July 24, 2010, in a tragic motorcycle accident.  He was born December 10, 1942, in Caribou, Maine to Kenneth L. and Jane (Martin) Spooner.  Ken was a graduate of Husson University, Bangor in Business Management.  He served in the Army as a Military Policeman and as Administrative Assistant to Brigadier General Victor L. Cary in St. Louis, Missouri.  In 1973, he began his civilian career as Service Representative for Alexander Ferguson of the Maine Credit Union League Insurance Trust; and in 1986, Ken became its president.  In 1994, he became the Marketing Director for Evergreen Credit Union in Westbrook, Maine.  He was very active in business development and served as president of both the Windham Rotary Club and Windham Chamber of Commerce.  During Christmas holidays, he delighted in serving as Ken “Motorcycle Santa” Spooner for the Chamber. After moving in 2002 to Lakeland, Florida, he began working part-time as Security Officer for U. S. Security Associates at River Ranch RV Resort.  Recently he also was serving as Manager at  Saddlebags RV Resort in Lake Wales.  Wherever Ken worked, he developed close lasting personal relationships.  Ken loved people and shared his infectious sense of humor with all around him.  He would want all who knew him to remember him with a smile.  He was a man of many interests but his favorites were billiards, motorcycling, photography, woodworking and time with his family and friends.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Ginita P. Spooner; aunt Anna Marie Roberts of Caribou; brother-in-law Stephen E. Peary of Strong, Maine; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his parents, sisters-in-law Corinne P. Foster and Patricia G. Peary.

A Celebration of his Life was held in Lakeland, Florida on July 28, 2010.  On August 18, at 2 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta, a Military Service will be held.  A celebration-of- life  gathering  will take place afterwards.  Gifts in Ken’s memory may be made to: Riverview Foundation, P. O.
