PRESQUE ISLE – The Aroostook County Singles Tennis Tournament took place last Tuesday, with Caribou earning titles in five of the six divisions of play.

In the 10-12 girls’ bracket, it was an all-Presque Isle final as Hilary Boucher posted an 8-2 victory over Michelle Cawley. In the semis, Cawley had drawn a bye, while Boucher bested Caribou’s Anna Soderberg, 8-1.
For the 10-12 boys, Caribou’s Ethan Plourde downed Gabe Massey, also from Caribou, in the championship match, 8-1. Massey beat David Smith of Caribou in one semi, 8-0, while Plourde blanked Caribou’s Gabe Rand in the other.
Katie Keaton of Caribou defeated Alexa Massey, also of Caribou, in the finals of the 13-15 girls division by a score of 8-3. Keaton beat Presque Isle’s Jenna Hallett in semifinal play, 8-0, while Massey topped Presque Isle’s Blair Bailey in the other semi.
In 13-15 boys play, Tyler Willey and Zac Gorence were the participants in the all-Caribou final, with Willey claiming a hard-fought 9-7 victory. In semifinal action, Willey beat Presque Isle’s Chris Carroll, 8-2, while Gorence topped Mikey Michaud of Presque Isle, 8-2.Staff photo/Kevin Sjoberg

The older age division saw Caribou gain the sweep. In the girls’ 16-18 category, Laura Collins beat Van Buren’s Haley Lizotte, 8-3. Collins had beaten Presque Isle’s Kayla Girardin in the semifinals, 8-3, while Lizotte took a bye into the championship match.
On the boys’ side, Jon Ouellette of Caribou scored an 8-6 win over Matt Vick of Van Buren to take top honors. In the semis, Ouellette beat Nick Willey, 8-2, while Vick stopped Eric LaPlante, also of Van Buren, by a score of 8-5.
The doubles tourney, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed until Thursday and will begin at 8 a.m. in Caribou.
