Students receive books through Marissa E. Lloyd Sunshine Fund

bs-sunshine-dcx6-ar-29One hundred twenty autographed books by Audrey Penn were given out this year to second-grade students of the Caribou, New Sweden, Connor and Woodland schools through the Marissa E. Lloyd Sunshine Fund. The Fund came about in 2007 after the sudden passing of seven-year-old Marissa Lloyd, a then second-grader at Teague Park Elementary.

“Our mission with her fund is to continue Marissa’s dream in helping young children by realizing that they have a recognizable voice and have the right to use it,” said Kristen Lloyd, Marissa’s mom and Fund president. Since Marissa’s passing, the fund has provided the students a variety of books to choose from that touch on difficult issues from bullying to the passing of a loved one.
