CARIBOU — Wrestlers interested in honing their skills with a world-renowned grappler will have an opportunity June 7-11 as Caribou High School hosts the James “Chico” Hernandez Wrestling Camp. The camp will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Teague Park School in Caribou and is open to any youths up to the age of 18 who are interested in learning more about wrestling. Assisting Hernandez are Caribou varsity coach Todd Albert and assistant coach Todd Beckum.
The cost of the week long camp is $40 per person or $50 for families. There is a maximum of 40 participants for this camp. To pre-register, send checks sent to “Caribou Athletic Dept.” Registration forms can be obtained from CHS.
There will be a registration session on the first day of the camp at 5 p.m.
Hernandez, a Washburn resident and former UM-Presque Isle standout wrestler, has done many clinics in England, Rhode Island, Illinois, Ohio, Vermont, West Virginia and Kansas. He is accomplished in the sport of Sombo wrestling, winning numerous medals. He is a five-time member of the US National Team.
“I look forward to helping these County wrestlers try to take it up a step or two and maybe they can be more competitive when the States come or whatever their goals and competition dreams are,” he said.
