Anderson, Doucette earn LL scholarships

CARIBOU – The recipients of both the Peter Ouellette and Caribou Little League scholarships have been announced, and Caribou High School seniors Cameron Anderson and Ashley Doucette gained the honors for 2010.     The Ouellette scholarship was established by classmates, friends and family members in honor of the man who coached and managed in the Caribou Little League from 1967-1973, coached the Caribou LL all-stars to a third-place finish in the state tournament in 1970 and went on to serve as umpire-in-chief in the Caribou LL from 1980-1987. In 1984, Ouellette received the Millet Award as the most outstanding Little League umpire in the state. He passed away in November, 1995 after a lengthy illness.
Anderson is the 2010 Peter Ouellette scholarship recipient. He played on the Key Bank team as a Little Leaguer before going on to compete in the 13-15 year-old league, Caribou Middle School’s team, the junior varsity for one year and the varsity for three. He is the captain of this year’s Viking squad. He has also umpired Little League baseball for two years and has officiated in the Aroostook Youth Basketball League and the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s fall soccer league.
Anderson will be attending the University of Maine at Orono this fall.
In 1998, the Caribou Little League established its own scholarship to be presented to either a boy or girl who is a former player in the league and is a senior on either the Caribou varsity baseball or softball teams. Doucette is the winner of this year’s scholarship. She played Little League for the North Stars and went on to play softball for the Union 122 middle school team and also on the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department summer league before establishing herself at the high school level.
Doucette will attend Northern Maine Community College this fall.
