UMFK to offer French camp for young children

FORT KENT — The University of Maine at Fort Kent will offer a week-long French camp for youth from Monday, July 5 to Friday, July 8. Classes will be held each day from 9 to 11 a.m. at the UMFK Sports Center.     The program is designed to teach children, ages 5 to 11, to learn and use the French language. Students will participate in various activities, which include arts and crafts, storytelling, games, field trips, and singing. Participants will bring home new vocabulary and a variety of fun projects.
The camp will be led by a certified French language instructor. The cost of the camp is $75 per child.  Lunch is not provided and space is limited.
The French camp also is a fun way for children to practice skills they may have learned at home or in school. The program continues to be popular with local residents, as well as with visitors who spend their summers in the Valley.
`For several years, the Program has served to educate students about local culture and history, as well as to prepare them for being part of a global community. Acquisition and reinforcement of language skills enrich a child’s cultural awareness and appreciation.
