Perham – Calvin E. Wardwell, 86, a lifelong Perham resident, died April 18, 2010, at Mars Hill. He was born in Perham, October 15, 1923, the son of the late Oli and Lillian (Helstrom) Wardwell. Mr. Wardwell was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic at Loring Air Force Base for many years. Calvin was a quiet and humble man but many will remember him as a genius inventor who repaired and invented solutions to many complex mechanical problems as they arose. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and four-wheel. He was solely responsible for the new four wheeler trail to Salmon Lake. This trail was named after him and dedicated in his honor.
Surviving in addition to his wife of nearly 66 years, Faye (Bowles) Wardwell of Perham, are his children, Tonya Wardwell of Brewer, Linda James of Riverview, Fl., Ruth Brown of Palm Bay, Fl., Sam Wardwell of Levant, and Scott Wardwell of Presque Isle; two brothers, Erbin Wardwell of Winchester, Va. and Roddie Wardwell of Perham; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, with Rev. William Belmain officiating. Interment took place in the Fairview Cemetery, Perham. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com
