Opting out of the whole, “Shave and a haircut,” Steve Austin, physical education and health teacher at Teague Park Elementary, was a real trooper when he allowed one student the right to shave his head but decided he’d finish off the job himself. The event was the result of the Jump Rope for Heart, program, headed by Austin where students secured pledge money for their jump rope efforts, with the money raised donated to the American Heart Association. During the month-long event, students incorporate learning about healthy lifestyles, donating to the AHA and recognizing family members and friends who have or currently are dealing with heart disease. This year the elementary students raised more than $8,000. Please see School Notes for more information.
