Caribou Chapter of the National Honor Society list of activities

    The Caribou Chapter of the National Honor  Society consists of 41 members from the classes of 2010 and 2011. Officers include: Emily Anderson, president; Erin Buck, vice president; Ethan McDuffie, recording secretary; Danielle Lane, corresponding secretary and Jared Sleeper, executive committee member. Each member of the Society must serve on a committee or accept the leadership of a committee or task.

    Since classes resumed in August for the 2009-10 school year members of the Caribou High School National Honor Society have been busy providing leadership in their community as well as in their school.
    The following is a calendar of events representing the efforts of the CHS NHS.
August 2009
    NHS members served as guides at Freshmen Orientation.
September 2009
    NHS members created a float, depicting the history of the Caribou High School, for the Caribou Sesquicentennial Parade. This float was made possible through the generous assistance of the late Mr. John Anderson. The float won first prize in the school division.
    NHS members hosted the annual Officers and Advisers Meeting at Caribou High School for the Northern Region.
November 2009
    Inductions were held with 23 new members added to the rolls of the Caribou Chapter.
    NHS members served as guides for the annual CHS Open House.
    The Caribou Chapter attended the Regional Convention in Fort Fairfield.
    Members participated in Operation Christmas Child, wrapping 80 boxes for children around the world.
    NHS members tallied ballots for the “Kounty Kids Got Talent” show as part of a fund-raiser for the Caribou Children’s Museum.
December 2009
    The NHS members sponsored the CHS Holiday Food Drive collecting an estimated $1,200 for the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen in Caribou.
    NHS members worked at the Caribou Recreation Department Ginger Bread House Decorating contest.
    The Viking Card for Honor Roll status was distributed to students who, by their academic achievement, warranted inclusion in this program.
    Members of the NHS worked as timers for the varsity swim team during their season of December through January.
January 2010
    The NHS provided workers to assist Simone Michaud, who organized a fund-raising supper for the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen.
February 2010
    NHS held their annual Carnation Sale.
    Members of the NHS assisted with the Caribou Children’s Museum Chocolate Festival.
    Members, along with the Student Council organized the “Hats for Haiti” campaign netting over $1,200 for relief or the earthquake-torn country.
March 2010
    NHS members organized the Muscular Dystrophy Shamrock Drive gaining over $600 for the MDA of Maine.
    NHS provided workers for the Junior Olympics Closing Ceremonies Dinner at NMCC.
April 2010
    NHS members worked at the Holocaust assembly on April 14.
    The NHS hosted an Appreciation Breakfast for the staff members of Caribou High School.
    NHS members are participating in a team for the Relay for Life Project for the American Cancer Fund in June.
May 2010
    Special Olympics is always a very poignant day for the Caribout NHS as they assist in the running of the games in Presque Isle.
    Academic Night is being planned by the NHS Chapter for late May.
    Members of the Caribou High School National Honor Society also sponsor,  the “Student of the Month” program which recognizes an outstanding student, nominated by their fellow students or by a faculty member.
