Mark Jones, Caribou High School principal has announced that Emily F. Anderson of Woodland, a senior at Caribou High School, has been selected to receive the 2010 Principal’s Award. This award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Emily Anderson, a senior at Caribou High School was recently presented with the 2010 Principal’s Award by Mark Jones, principal at CHS. The annual award recognizes a senior student’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“Throughout her years at Caribou High, Emily has distinguished herself in the classroom, on the playing field and as a leader in the school and the community,” stated Jones. “She has been active in band, qualifying for All-Aroostook every year and All-State during her junior and senior years.
During her high school career Anderson has served as class president, class secretary, homeroom rep, president of the CHS National Honor Society and attended Dirigo Girls State. She has also been a member of the French and Drama clubs, the Math Team and has participated in track, soccer and volleyball.
Academically, Anderson has achieved Highest Honors every quarter during her high school career. Jones commended Emily, stating, “Her school citizenship and positive attitude have been a great benefit to the school; she very much deserves this recognition.”
Anderson, Jones and other award winners and their principals attended an Honors Luncheon held at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on April 3.
The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of individual plaques and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the MPA.
The Principals’ Award is presented in more than 140 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
Anderson plans to attend Wellesley College in the fall.
