Earl Monson, formerly of Caribou, was honored with a surprise 90th birthday party on April 3 coordinated by his wife, Kay; daughter, Dee-Dee Monson; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Cathy Monson; John and Cindy Chick; Pete, Melissa and their daughter Blair Webb; Joe, Cathy and their son Joe Quimby — all from Caribou — as well as other friends and neighbors in Orlando, Fla. The group celebrated Earl’s birthday at the home of Greg and Cathy Monson. John Chick presented Earl with a picture of Monson’s Market and read congratulatory messages of remembrance from many people about “Earl and Monson’s Market.” Earl and Kay formerly lived at 147 High Street — next to the Old Iron Inn — and owned Monson’s Market located at 143 High Street. “Everyone remembers Monson’s Market, which was located a half-block from the old high school and kids spent their mornings, lunch hours and after school running in and out of the store,” remembered Dee-Dee Monson. “Parents always knew their children could wait at Monson’s Market to be picked up and Earl provided free telephone usage for the kids to call their parents for a ride.”
